90 Years of History

1926It all started in the year 1926, on 4 Tzaribrod Str. of Varna. A small workshop for the production of cardboard and paperboard goods opened up. It was known to the locals by the romantic name of Chaika. About 20 people worked there. In the beginning the workshop’s equipment consisted of four cutting and sewing machines. They were used mainly for manufacturing paperboard boxes, albums and powder boxes.

1939The workshop existed in this manner until 1939 when it started manufacturing cigarette boxes. This lead to increasing the number of employees – 70 people participated in the work process. In 1943 Chaika included salt boxes in its product assortment. They were used by the salt works near Provadia.

1947The period between 1947 and 1967 was marked by an exceptional growth in Chaika’s output. The productivity increased by seven times and the company acquired its own printing facilities.

1967February 1967 was a really important month in Chaika’s history. The construction of a new factory began; it was completed in May 1969. The building was equipped with new printing technologies, special cardboard machines and installations. The product assortment boosted significantly. Now Chaika offered goods made of cardboard, paper, paperboard and micro corrugated board.

1990The 1990s brought changes in Chaika’s management. In August 1995 a worker-management privatization was performed and more than 51% of the ownership became private. Since 2000 Chaika has been an entirely private company.

2003In 2003 it received a certificate under the quality management system EN ISO 9001. Day after day Chaika works in accordance with the requirements and strives to improve the products and services provided. That is why the company adopted a contract for the use and implementation of the ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system EnterpriseOne®. It facilitates the effective planning and controlling of all resources needed for the procurement, production, delivery and accounting of client orders.
